My Third Host Family at Scotland – GSE Program of Rotary Foundation

Note: I was selected by Rotary Foundation for its exchange program called Group Study Exchange(GSE) for Scotland. I visited West of Scotland for tenure of one month, i.e. from September 8 to October 8, 2012. We were total five members, one team-leader and four team-members. All my posts regarding my experiences of this program are posted here on SpeakBindas under the category of GSE Scotland. Read on..

One thing that is common between me and my host Ernie Hasler is that we both are writers. He has published two books so far and working on third. You can read information about his second book Conspiracy of Wolves. He was kind enough to gift me one.

Talking about my experience of staying at his home for three days, he had come to pick me up with other Rotarians from the common point after we left the Mid Argyll Club. My first impression about him was of a gentleman, and I was right even after three days of being hosted by him. This isn’t my judgement about him, but experience.

Because he lives single, he took me to Morrisons Supermarket to purchase food for me. I did purchase ready-to-eat vegetables & some parathas.

It was a big house, to accommodate both of us. I was given a separate room on first floor, which was big in size. There was fine garden visible from the window. His reading & writing room was at the ground floor. I remember having discussed about his books, rather him sharing the plot of his books.

As part of my vocational visit, I was taken to Erskine Writers Club. Ernie too is a member of the same. It was an intense discussion with the group. Some of the questions were raised by Ernie about India culture, and it was interesting for everyone to find their answers from us.

Ernie was an easy to approach person.
