One should not feel deterred by lack of visitors: Srinivas Prasanna

Srinivas Prasanna

Srinivas Prasanna

I am Srinivas, generally Srini for anyone who has known me for a length of time. Born on March 9, 1985 I suppose I have not had a preciously extraordinary childhood or something. I have been blogging for close to five years now and you may visit my space at http://www.transient-lines.blogspot.com. Naturally, writing has kept me going in this sphere and has to be counted amongst my top passions.

However, I also love listening to music – prefer melodies of all kinds – foraging random through works in Western Philosophy, going on long walks, reading and commenting on friends’ poetry and spending time with family or a very discreet set of friends over a nice meal. I am currently a Ph. D student in Hyderabad and my research area is Phonology which is a sub-branch of Linguistics so anything that is remotely connected with my research area can also have me hooked to it.

Interview

Q: Welcome to Speakbindas. Tell us since when blogging has been a part of your life? Was there any motive or inspiration as a backbone of it?

  • Ans.: Four years ago a friend with whom I had studied French had talked about blogs as a showcase for one’s writing. And then another friend on whose blog I started commenting suggested “why don’t you start a blog?” Without so much a second thought, there I was!

Q: What is your blog all about? Which topics you cover there? Is that you alone running/maintaining the blog, or have a team?

  • Ans.: Oh, I write a couple of blogs. But my impersonal blog – which is the one open to all – covers topics and issues which are close to my heart ranging from cricket to memories and memoirs to people, places and events and a smattering of philosophy. I write about fellow-bloggers too.

Q.: How important is it for the blogger to interact with their readers? Do you respond to all the comments that you receive?

  • Ans.: I think it is quite significant especially if the topics posted will benefit from mutual discussion and interaction.

Q: What are the present statistics for your blog, i.e. number of daily visitors, visitors geographical status etc.?

  • Ans.: I hardly keep track of my statistics. I am not that popular in the sphere I suppose but yeah I do have a handful of friends who visit me regularly.

Q: Is blogging for you just a passion or a medium for earning too? Does it help you to earn enough cash to quit a 9 to 5 day job?

  • Ans.: Just a passion. Writing is more therapeutic for me and I have never actually thought of money.

Q: Who are your favorite bloggers, whom you read frequently?

  • Ans.: That’s quite a list: Here are some names and links. Iyshwarya (http://www.moonlightnmagnolias.blogspot.com), Venky (http://www.cricoholic.blogspot.com), Chronic Writer/ Chriz (http://www.chronicwriter.com), Govind Paliath (http://www.simblyfundastic.blogspot.com), Sowmiya (http://www.dexerouslady.blogspot.com), Gounder Brownie (http://www.mediumboss.blogspot.com), Dr. KK (http://www.maqamatics.blogspot.com) and Manasi Subramaniam (http://www.manasis.blogspot.com). That’s SOME list isn’t it?

Q: From the secret bucket of your blogging experiences, what tips you would like to share with the fellow bloggers?

  • Ans.: I have realised I am not great with tips and advice – giving or taking to be honest. But what I CAN say is if personal drive and not popularity is the aim then one should not feel deterred by lack of visitors. Plus it is always nice to stick to one’s strengths even while it may be tempting to follow other more celebrated patterns.

Q: Do you believe that blogging completes you? If yes, tell us how?

  • Ans.: I do blog a lot but I cannot say it is as important for me to say it completes me.

Q: What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?

  • Ans.: There are some personal ones I would not like to share. But when I think of more general ones and recent ones at that I reckon the day I got through my Ph. D entrance was a really happy moment. The world has enough gloom so I shall skip the latter question.

Q: Say, you are sponsored to travel to 3 world destinations, where you need not to worry about costs for food, hotel or anything. Which destinations would you pick up, and why? Would you like to take someone along with you? If yes, whom?

  • Ans.: Venice, London and Bahamas. If I do get a better half I will take her to Venice, for obvious reasons. London – I have made a friend a promise. Bahamas, may be with sis, dad and mom.

Q: Are you into watching movies? If yes, which fills your list of favorite ones?

  • Ans.: I watch several films together or go through a lean trot. 2012 impressed me recently for its human touch more than the giant special effects.

Q: How has blogging helped you other than money?

  • Ans.: It has won four very good – and loyal – friends. I guess nothing else can be a bigger reward to life.

Q: What would be the one thing you’d change about yourself?

  • Ans.: I would like to think less and act more.

Q: What is your deepest fear?

  • Ans.: Utter helplessness.

Q: If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be?

  • Ans.: Rahul Dravid, I suppose.

Q: Which is your favorite television show? Favorite songs?

  • Ans.: Not into television shows. I keep humming “hasili fisili” from the Tamil film “Aadhavan” lately.

Q: How much money do you have in your purse/wallet right now (including change)?

  • Ans.: That’s a secret. Oh I just withdrew a four-figure sum!

Q: What is your favorite food? Any particular dislikes?

  • Ans.: Used to have many dislikes but not that many now. I like any typical south Indian vegetarian dish.

Q: What’s your take on the technological advancement these days? Does it make people’s life simple or complicated?

  • Ans.: Oh, technological advancement per se is not good or bad. Nor can it be wished away. If it becomes compulsive as it has for me recently it makes life mechanical and complex in a humdrum kind of way.

Q: What do you think of “blogging is the next BIG thing”?

  • Ans.: I do not think much of it to be honest.

Q: Any special message you would like to share with your blog readers as well with everyone else?

  • Ans.: I do not think I am that great a man to share messages. But since year end is at hand I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a 2010 which at least in some ways is better than 2009.
