Interview

Q.: What really inspired you to start blogging?

Before I answer this question, I must say that this (the website) was only possible because of God’s Grace!

The inspiration to build this site has really come about from my personal interest in three areas: religion, music and literature.  I have always been a regular reader of Gujarati newspapers however, I wasn’t aware of what blogs were, until a friend of mine sent me a link of readgujarati.com.  I was extremely happy to browse and read this site,   and from there I found more links of other blogs.   It was the writer within me that thought and had the vision and desire of having a personal blog like the ones I had read.  I had decided that I would like to be able to publish my own written creations and publish my favourite poet’s and authors’ creations too.  As a Music lover, I also have a collection of different types of Music (Shriji bhajans, filmi and non-filmi songs, gazals etc.), so that was something else that I also wanted to share.

Q.: Your blog Samnvay.net is the combination of trio – Bhakti (worship), Sangit (Music) and Sahitya (literature). Quite a perfect combination it seems. Tell us more about choosing these topics for your blog.

I am a daughter of the Ghiya family who is heavily interested in dharma, traditional arts and literature and this is how the start of my interest progressed – it has been a part of my childhood and life.

As mentioned, it is actually the interest in Dharma (Religion), Sangit (Music) and Sahitya (literature) that inspired me to open and run this website.

Shriji (http://samnvay.net/shriji/) was an idea that came into my mind a long time back. I wanted to find a way for everyone who has difficulties in Gujurati language can read Religious Stuti, Paath, Shlok and many more in English.

After 8 years of this idea, I travelled to Champaran, the birth place of Shrimad Bhagvatachary Shri Vallabhadhishji, where I heard the speech (Amurtvani) of Shri Yadunathji Maharajshri from which I was touched and got my inspiration through devotional vibration. This helped me create Shriji and Sur-Sargam on 23rd October 2006 and AnokhuBandhan on 10th November 2007.

Sur-Sargam (http://samnvay.net/sur-sargam/) was created on the idea that no one can stay away from Music. And music has no language but its tune and rhythm has a big effect on everyone. Music therapy has also helped many people heal. Music & singing is my passion and it helps me to freshen my mind. Through Sur-Sargam I am able to share with friends, Music that I like  & songs of different  festivals such as,  Shri Purushottam Maas, Ganesh chaturthi,  Janmashtami ,  Hanuman jayanti , Navaraatri , MahaShivratri, Raam navami , Rakshabandhan,  Diwali, Holi,  Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and many more. The songs are sometimes based on classical or light music or melodious. I can also share messages from these songs.

AnokhuBandhan  ( http://samnvay.net/anokhubandhan/)   was created because of my childhood interest in  Literature & Gujarati music. AnokhuBandhan itself  describes the importance of  all the different types of relationships  and my aim is to  share this with my readers & friends.  I was married at a very young age, I had the responsibilities of an extended family and together with living abroad, and I was not able to fulfill my interests. However, whenever I got a chance, I participated in drawing and Garba competitions as well as choreographing dances and accepted invitations to be part of a panel of judges during dancing & Rangoli + drawing competitions. During my early years in Sudan -Africa, it was not possible to get access to literature and so I used to wait for family members to come from India with their bag full of ironed clothes which were wrapped using parts of newspapers – I used to keep these newspapers and this is how I kept alive my passion for reading!

In the beginning these three blogs were on separate platforms, but I managed to combine them into one, Samnvay ( http://samnvay.net/ ), on my mother’s birthday, 29th February 2008.  My parents and other family members insisted, supported and encouraged me and that is the reason that I was able to transfer the three blogs onto one site.  I had many technical difficulties in creating this website but with the help and support of my brother in laws Anup Shah and Shirish Shah, and my friend, Niraj Shah, it was possible to complete the site – many thanks to them.

Q.: Being a family woman, having to travel between Sudan, England and India, how do you manage to satisfy your passion to blog on your favorite above trio subjects?

I must say that I do find it extremely difficult to satisfy my passion as much as I like because of my travel circumstances – I am not able to update the site as much as what I would like to, but I am so passionate about my site that I do stay up until late at night to keep all my posts ready, but even sometimes publishing these posts is not always possible because of time constraints.   My family has always supported me and their continuous encouragement plays a huge role in being able to satisfy my passion. I am very lucky to have an extremely supportive family! I believe that it is God’s Grace also that ensures that I am able to fulfill what I set out to do.

Q.: From the kind of photos you select for your posts, one gets to know about love for the nature. Shed some more light on your love for nature?

My love for nature started from a young age and this interest resulted in a collection of photos.  I appreciate the beauty of nature and enjoy capturing photos of places like the mountains, lakes, streams, waterfalls, the sea and snow.  I also admire snow and like spending time in parks and gardens as well as in other natural places. My family is also extremely aware of my love for nature and so when for example it snows in the UK, my sons   take photos of the snow when they are out and send them to me.  It is this passion for nature and the inner happiness I acquire from natural photos that I like to choose pictures like these for my posts.  I also upload photos according to the songs that I put on the site so that they synchronize.

Q.:Instead of having a photo of yourself why have you put the image of the flute on your site?

The flute is my favourite instrument and I obtain peace from listening to its tune – if anyone asks me out of all of Lord Krishna’s ornaments which would you like to be? My answer has always been and will be the flute.  The flute is God’s favourite too and it never leaves the lips of Lord Krishna.  God plays beautiful music through the flute and in the same way I feel that God has inspired me and has given me the vibrations to set up the site.  Similarly I feel that I am God’s flute!

Q.: How important is it for the blogger to interact with readers? Do you respond to all the comments that you receive?

Interaction is extremely important – this is so that I can understand the points of views of others and so can the readers.  I like to continuously learn from others and appreciate differing opinions from other angles and I feel that I am an open minded person so for me as a blogger, interaction with my readers is important.

I respond to all the comments I receive not only because it is courteous to do so but also because I value opinions.  I tend to respond on site and also through personal email, but because of travelling reasons I cannot always reply to the comments immediately, however I do ensure I take time to respond.

Q.: Under a category “Zakalbindu * Sva-Rachit ” you do put up your own creations. Your one of the Gujarati stories has won a first prize too. What are you more inclined to, poems or stories? And why?

I enjoy both; however I am more inclined to articles and stories as that is my strength.  I feel stories are easily understandable to my readers, whereas poems tend to be written in deep meaning, making it more difficult for everyone to understand.  In my writings there is always a message and I feel the message can be more easily passed on through a story, which is why I am more inclined to writing stories & articles.

Q.: Blogging is a world where we get to meet new people often. How has it been in your case?

That is a statement that I have found to be extremely true – I have met a whole new set of people and friends who have also provided their friendship and support.  There are many that I have not met but have developed good relationships with and have been acknowledged and known to some as either a daughter or sister. It has been extremely amazing from this perspective as meeting new, diverse people has led to the widening of my existing knowledge as I have been able to understand other viewpoints.  We have in fact been able to learn from one another and share our common interests.  It is because of Samnvay that many readers have given me their blessings – some people who live abroad and cannot travel to the temple, use the site as a platform for listening to Bhajans and prayers.  I have also been told by readers who have had operations or have health problems that visiting the site has resulted in speedy recoveries and better health – I have felt inner happiness from hearing this and this is what inspires me to carry on what I am already doing

Q.: Any special message that you would like to share with readers of your blog?

The aim of my site is to restore our Dharmic faith and for it to continue with our new generations and those to follow.  So really one message I would like to share with my readers is to continue respecting our faith, our mother tongue (Gujarati) and  an Indian Music so, that this respect is followed by our new generation and is kept alive.  I would like my readers to continue their interest and share it with our children so that our culture does not fade away over generations to come.  Also I would like to thank you, my readers – for your continued support as it is your support that is keeping this site alive and growing!

Finally thank you to Devangbhai – your site has opened doors for normal people who are not as well known as the celebrities and has provided them with an opportunity – keep it up!

Q.: How can people reach you?

I can be reached via email at: chetnashah5 AT gmail Dot com

E-VALBHACHARYAJI.. but still to go more as I want to see you having hot line with LORD KRISHNA, I am confident that you CHETNA will have the said HOTLINE as soon as your time comes……..and your TAP ripes. I have heard from my father LATE SHRI MAGANLAL JAMNADAS GHIYA if any one completes 7 crores JAP of LORD KRISHNA ……will have hotline . But for you 7 crores will be achive shortly as your one name reaches to millions and millions one.
