Tips and Tricks To Prepare For KMAT 2018

With Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) 2018 just around the corner, management aspirants might be having tough time as this might be their only gateway to seek admissions to 160+ management colleges in Bangalore and Karnataka. To start with, KMAT is a pen and paper based test of two hours duration with 120 MCQs divided in three sections namely – Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Logical and Abstract Reasoning and Quantitative Ability. Each section comprises of 40 questions carrying one mark each. There is no negative marking and no sectional time limit. The level of exam is usually between moderate to difficult.

Moving ahead, your preparation for KMAT should be based on the following:

  • Matter of Speed – KMAT is usually considered a moderate difficulty level exam when compared to other national level management exams like CAT, XAT, SNAP and others. The question paper is more about speed then about reaching the minimum cut-off unlike CAT. It’s important that a candidate must get as many as possible correct answers. For instance – in a total time of 120 minutes you’ve to attempt 120 MCQs which is one minute solving time per question. So work on speed during your revision days.
  • Learning From Tougher Entrances – Most of the management exams follow same exam pattern with some major-minor changes in the structure. So in case you’ve prepared and appeared in tougher examinations like CAT/XAT/MAT/SNAP/NMAT you can always use your learning experience in this case as well. If you’ve prepared well for these entrances you can have an edge over KMAT 2018 preparations.
  • Focus On Syllabus – KMAT usually doesn’t include many surprises in the question paper and sticks to the syllabus prescribed on the official website of KMAT. Hence, students should cover each and every topic in order to increase their chance of scoring high. For instance – students who practice enough on the prescribed syllabus for Quantitative Ability speed up while attempting questions. Have thorough knowledge of concepts and application of concepts in topics like trigonometry, momentum, calculus, shares and dividends, matrices, logarithms, equation of circle, probability etc.
  •  Have Patience While Attempting LAR section – Practice for LAR section in a way that you don’t lose patience while attempting questions as KMAT usually sets lengthy questions for this particular section. But due to moderate level of difficulty candidates can overcome this hurdle too. Refer reasoning books, reasoning puzzles from previous year’s papers and mock tests to get a grip over the section.
  • Don’t Ignore Reading – Reading comprehension can be cracked only when you can read and comprehend with speed. It is absolutely necessary to become a reading bug to English newspapers, editorials, magazines, etc. Watch English movies, read good novels and work on grammar part. Also make a note of difficult words and keep referring dictionary, make use of flash cards or make a pocket notebook.

  • Mock prepare yourself – It’s a tried, tested and approved method of coping preparation, improving performance or even keeping a track of preparations.
