Movie Review – Groundhog Day(1993)

Groundhog Day“, a 101 minutes and 4 seconds long movie that made me feel like it should go and on and on and on and on. Well, the story is such that Phil the Weatherman has the same day again and again and again. There is no tomorrow for him. Tomorrow is another today for him!

So tomorrow becomes just another Today for him. Confusing?!! It is not. It is rather beautiful. And that’s why the film holds the position of 177th in ‘Top 250 Movies’ list of IMDB. Bill Murray has always impressed me. He was great in “Lost in Translation” too. “Groundhog Day” is also said to be a love-story. Every lover would want a boon(or a curse?) like Phil to have the same day again and again so that he can correct all the possible errors he would make to express his love!

The film also depicts the transformation of Phil from self-centric & egoistic person to a person who is loved by many. Hats off to Harold Ramis for directing this beautiful peace of art, for it would have taken hell of homework to plan the shooting schedules as he had to shoot different kinds of shot for the same location depicting different days, in continuous manner. If you have watched “What Women Want”, you would find some similarities in this film with it, in terms of having the power to know what’s going to happen or what’s going on in other people’s mind, and you know it quite exactly!

Well, fantasies apart, this film is must watch for few other reasons too for natural acting of Bill Murray & Andie Macdowell, Music and the story. Thanks to Vikas Rajpopat & Vadera Vinay for suggesting & sharing this amazing film with me.
