Just because you have reached retirement does not mean you have to roll over and do nothing for the remainder of your life.  There are actually a few fun things that you can do if you are looking to travel and learn a new, fun and exciting skill.

The winter is prime season for the Caribbean, and SCUBA diving is a popular past time for those who are heading south for the winter season.

If you are and your significant other are serious about taking up SCUBA and doing so in the Caribbean, here are a few tips to get ready.

  • See your personal care physician – A routine physical is always a good thing, but letting your doctor know you are going to SCUBA dive is a good idea.  They can let you know if it is safe for you or not.
  • Get certified first – Certification will take time.  Some will finish in a few weeks; others make take a couple of months.  You will have to do a few starter dives and pass the test.
  • Get your personal equipment – You will need some equipment before you start the courses, and it is a good idea to buy a BC and octopus rig as well.
  • Insurance – Surely you have insurance for your health as well as any accidents that may happen while on vacation, but many insurance plans do not cover diving accidents.  DAN is from divers, for divers.  It is inexpensive, practical and an extra added level of security.
